In Maaseik, Aclagro was responsible for the asbestos removal, dismantling and demolition of the old hospital and retirement home in the middle of the city centre. The circular approach was central to this assignment. Thus, during dismantling, an extensive inventory was first made of all possible materials to be reused. The buildings were then selectively and carefully dismantled. Many materials we were able to give a new purpose for recovery: PVC exterior joinery, radiators, garage doors, insulation boards, gyproc, switches, sockets, steel deck, built-in cabinets, door handles and locks, fuse boxes, hinges, scrap metal, masonry, natural stone, concrete rubble and the bicycle shed. Given its central location in the city and proximity to the residential care centre, we were able to minimise disruption by constructing a separate site driveway for the circulation of site traffic, demolishing in several phases, providing misting equipment and carrying out continuous vibration measurements during the demolition work.
